Apple’s App Store Now Allows Unlisted Apps

Spotted by MacRumours, Apple’s App Store now supports the addition of unlisted apps, this is according to documentation on its developer website. Unlisted apps are apps that are not suitable for public distribution and their developers can submit a request for their inclusion in the App Store.

Requests to add apps in the beta stage or still in development will not be approved by Apple. Apps approved as unlisted will not show up in categories, recommendations, charts, search results or other listings. These apps can be accessed via Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager.

Apps that can be classified as unlisted are for a specific group of people or organization, these includes the ones for research purposes, employees and special events. Once an app is approved as unlisted by Apple, its distribution method will change to “Unlisted app” and this will remain applicable to its updates as well. Anyone who has the link to these apps can download and use them, this will be supported in all countries where Apple’s App Store is available.

Developers will not only be able to submit requests for new apps but also existing apps. This will certainly make the App Store more organized.
